Hello! My name is Mercedes Ritchie –thanks so much for dropping by.  Here is a little bit about me:
I decided to start blogging for a few reasons:  One, I really just wanted somewhere to show my daily adventures & passions– to be able to come back and see all the memories down the road is a bonus! Two,  I LOVE fashion,  everything about it fascinates me.   From the yearly New York Fashion Week to everyday occasions, I just can’t seem to get enough.  I wake up in the morning and turn my phone on just to see if any of my favourite bloggers have posted.  I always look forward to seeing the outfit collaborations that people come up with and how they pair things together, it gives me inspiration for my own ideas!  Fashion isn’t everything, fitness is a huge part of me and how I live my day-to-day life. Also, I have to say, not everyone needs to be a skinny mini to love fashion and show their passions off.  I come from a family that has always had healthy meals on the table and exercised daily, but also not making life revolve around this and how much you eat or don’t eat.  I have never been considered small or skinny.  I believe this is such a big issue in society today and most people don’t realize how much it can affect a person.  This not only consumed me for the longest time, but it really put a damper on my self-confidence.  In the past year, I have learned how loving yourself is the biggest obstacle when it comes to your own confidence and self-worth and a huge part of my change was exercise.  Can you imagine if Beyonce didn’t have the confidence she does?  Where would our world be without Queen Bey?  These are the things that I have figured out, and it definitely didn’t happen over-night.  If one single person is inspired or even has a positive thought about themselves from reading this, I have achieved my goal.

Being fashionable is as much about confidence as it is about style. We all have things that stand out about ourselves [whether you think they are good or not] so why not flaunt them? Where would us girls be if we were all the same? It’s all of these things put together that makes us unique and different and we have to stick together!

Now, on to my life. I have gone to school for what seems like FOREVER. Everything I’ve taken just hasn’t ‘wowed’ me. It sometimes feels like I have failed because I don’t have a degree after all these years of school, but I remind myself that everything happens for a reason and eventually I will find what I am truly passionate about. I think this is another reason I started House of Classy, to have something that’s mine and to feel like I’ve accomplished something. Don’t get me wrong –I have a great job, I’m just not sure if it’s what I’ll be doing for the rest of my life. But hey –doesn’t everyone change careers three to four times throughout their life? All I know is money makes life a little easier, but it definitely isn’t what makes you happy– that comes from within, and can take a bit of work to find.

I have a 3 pound chihuahua named Fernando and he is EVERYTHING! He is the cutest little thang, I bring him everywhere with me so I’m sure you will see photos with him on the regular.  I also have an amazing man in my life, Nick.  He is the sweetest person I have ever known, so thoughtful and romantic, he really just gets me. He motivates me because he’s so supportive of all my ideas and plans for the future. It’s nice to have someone like that next to you through everything.  We motivate each other and it just seems to work!  Last but definitely not least Ethan, Nicks son. The most amazing little man who definitely takes after his daddy and literally always wants to cuddle –what else could you ask for in a nine year old?

Now, where I grew up was DEFINITELY not anywhere like I live now. I was born and raised in a small city called Campbell River on Vancouver Island. I bet a lot of people don’t even know where that is. It was a great place to live as a child and I still have all my closest friends from there, but now that I’m older I see that there just isn’t a lot of opportunity there anymore. Moving to Vancouver was probably the best thing my parents could have done for me. Now that I am in the city, there is just so much more to do! Yes, I live in one of the most expensive places in the the world, but there is so much more opportunity to make more out of yourself living here and it gives you a reason to grow. I think about all of the opportunities I’ve had because of living here and it just exceeds anything that would have come my way on the island. My parents also have a house in Scottsdale, Arizona. That place gives me life. The sunshine year round and all the cool cacti –I just love it there. To be honest, if I could live there permanently, I would in a second. It really does feel like a second home to me.

These are just a few snippets into my life. If you have any questions about me or anything else you were wondering while reading this, feel free to email me or comment on my social media. I am always happy to meet new people and am so grateful you are following me here on HOC!
